Lately I’ve been exploring different DIY beauty treatments, and finding unique ways that you can save money at home instead of paying for salon treatments. The results are pretty encouraging, and a lot of things you can do to naturally enhance your beauty are right in your closet or bathroom!
In some sense, I think a lot of the natural beauty in women has been lost. We look more towards the accessories, the caked-on make-up, the layers upon layers in our outfits. Where some of these things can be used for good, women really have a much better natural inner and outer beauty waiting to be highlighted.
One of my favorite verses about women in the bible is 1 Peter 3:3-4 which commands us, “Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.”
As you can see from this verse, God is much more concerned with the way we look on the inside, and that is where the true test of our character comes in. Yet on the outside, we must reflect what God is already doing inside of us.
Trust me, I’ve struggled with this verse many times and have heard many different opinions, but in the end, it came out to be one of my favorites. It rings true to the beauty that is already inside of women, and by finding natural ways to highlight that, we can truly reflect our soft and loving hearts.
Here are 3 ways you can highlight your natural beauty today:
1. Wear Less Make-Up
I’m sure you saw this one coming didn’t you! Try to wear less today, and use softer and more subtle colors. Highlight the parts of your face that you know don’t need much extra to stand out. For example, if you have dark brown eyes like me, you don’t really need to cake on the heavy eye-liner and eye shadow, but rather line the eye with a soft brown and just put some mascara on. Here’s a pic:
As you can see, less make-up can sometimes mean more simple and attractive, and can work to highlight the unique and beautiful parts of your face.
2. Drink LOTS of Water
One thing you can start right away to heighten your natural beauty is simply drink more water! I know they say 4-6 glass per day, but I always try to have a little bit more than that, because I do spend part of my day dehydrating my hair and skin through things like coffee, humidity, and exercise. It helps me to carry around a bottle, and I actually bring it with me in the car wherever I’m going. The constant sight of my bottle helps me drink more!
3. Get Some Sun
Remember that mid-day walk I suggested in my last post? Well this is a great way to also bring on some beautiful sun to brighten your complexion. There are of course limits to the amount of sun you should get (although some might disagree!), but in the long run, a little bit of sun every day with give your skin a healthy glow. And healthy glow means needing less make-up too! So I guess you could say it’s a win-win! If you live in a climate where there isn’t much sun right now, don’t stress, really any type of fresh air every day will help your skin be refreshed and looking more naturally beautiful.
Hope these tips help you girls experience more of your inner and outer beauty, and remember, God has fearfully and wonderfully made you just the way you are. Enjoy today!
