Monday mornings seem to come so fast don’t they? Before we can even blink, it is time to start a new week and to work even harder than the last! The weekend has come and gone, and we have real issues and problems to start working through at the office.
I’ve heard all over the radio, tv, and news, that the month of March is the most unproductive of all months when it comes to work, and of course we all know why…MARCH MADNESS!
Whether or not you’ve been caught up in the brackets and watching the different scores, we all know, around this time of the year, it can be hard to fight through that 9-5 job when all you want to do is relax and enjoy the spring.
To be effective today and for the rest of the week, you need to have a few tools that will help you save your time, and enable you to do more during the day.
Follow these tools throughout your day, and find yourself coming to the end of it saying, “Today was productive, I got a lot done!” And rest easy tonight knowing that you put your full effort and energy into the day.
This Morning:
Start with a good breakfast (think lean proteins), making your mind and body sharp as you face another week. Don’t settle for the routine American breakfast of coffee + carbs. It never works, and will cause an inevitable crash around 10:00-11:00 AM. Trust me, a sharp mind will automatically give you the ability to get more done, think more clearly, and produce new and effective ideas.
This Afternoon:
Go for a short walk mid-day on your lunch break. Get some exercise in, as well as endorphins flowing to get you through that afternoon low. You think coffee is the only thing that can wake you up at 3:00 PM? Stop dehydrating yourself and do the right thing for your body. Walking will wake you up, and it is good for you to get out of the same surrounding and enjoy the outdoors a little.
Tonight:
Make a dish for dinner that isn’t “hands on”, so you have time to do the dishes before you’re even done with the meal! Think stovetop simmer or roasting in the oven. Your house will smell amazing and all the work will be done so you can relax afterwards.
Tips for throughout the day:
1. Whenever you have a good idea, think of something brilliant, or remember something you have to do, don’t rely on memory alone, write it down!
I have all kinds of word documents that start with “Ideas For…”. It’s nice to revisit those documents when I’m feeling uninspired or uncreative. Well…there’s also Pinterest!
2. Speaking of social media sites, try to limit the amount of time you are on each of those today.
We all know these can be huge time-wasters, and whatever task you might be working on, you will definitely see more results if you give your full attention to it. What helps me is to simply close the tab whenever I’m done checking up on all I want to check on. “Out of sight, out of mind” right?
Another tip is to set a goal like, “I will work on this project till 12:30 and then take a 5 minute break.” Then you can reward yourself by looking on Facebook, but it can be a huge distraction to pull those pages up right in the middle of something.
Put these tools into practice today, and watch yourself feeling pretty accomplished by 5:00PM.
Do you have tricks and tools to get more things done throughout your day? Please share, we would love to do them ourselves!

I am going to take that lunch time power walk today !!!! Great advice as usual…thanks Erika !!! Judy
Awesome! It really does help, although it’s hard to make yourself get out there and do it! Good for you 🙂
I agree with all of it 🙂 Thanks for the reminders. I am sooooo happy that I made a big pot of bean and veggie soup last night specifically for tonight’s dinner.
That sounds so yummy!!! I should have made that this weekend! Great example of a time-saver 🙂
