If you find yourself not having enough money left over at the end of the month to even cover the basics, it’s time to think outside of the box and get creative with your resources.
There are plenty of ways that you can be proactive in bringing in a few extra bucks every week, and I want to give you just some of the ideas I have found to make this possible.
Without creativity, you are really asking for money troubles. Creativity is the key to finding what means the most to you, and what you can have while also living within your means.
People who are at a constant struggle with their finances all seem to have one thing in common, they are stuck in their old ways. They don’t venture out by trying new things that cost less, and they are expecting one day to simply have enough money to cover their expenses now.
If this hits close to home with you, I want to open you up to a single truth: it will never be “enough”. There will always be new things to buy, new services to enjoy, and new toys to be had. Yet if you cannot learn to live within the means you have at this moment, you will never be able to live within your means in the future.
Not only will you want new things in the future, but you will also find yourself trying to keep up with inflation! Talk about an uphill battle…
Please don’t let yourself get to the point of complete hopelessness. Rock the boat, and start to do things that are not necessarily in your comfort zone, like cancelling your cable and going for more walks or hikes outside!
I know it sounds crazy, but in the end, we must answer to our Lord and Savior, who expects these kinds of crazy things from us!
Romans 12:2 shows us this truth, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
In this case, conforming to the world would mean giving in to the lazy, materialistic nature of society. It would mean having all the cable channels you want, going out to eat every night, and refusing to shop at discount stores.
Is that what you want to do…conform to the world?
As you can see, these tips on how to be creative and make extra money on the side are not just surface. They carry a much greater weight, but all the same, they are very practical and can hopefully be something you will try for yourself.
Here is my list of Creative Ways to Make Extra Money:
1. Sell Your Old Stuff
I know, I know…you’ve heard this one before right?? Well it’s time to actually do it! I have to admit, I have a slight fear of selling things on E-bay, yet once you do it a few times, you will become a pro at it. The key to this one is that you need to purge your house first. Take a long hard look at some things you have laying around in your closet, someone might actually want that old DVD player!
2. Start a Business
Ok, I don’t mean a full-throttle blood, sweat, and tears business…but I do think you can use your gifts and talents to start selling something. One thing that I love to do, especially when it’s cold out, is knit scarves! A lot of times I’ve received compliments on one that I’m wearing, and usually, I will make something that I really enjoy wearing. Around the holidays, ask your friends if they ever need creative gift ideas, and be willing to make something for them like a scarf or craft. This is a great way to make a little extra cash on the side while also having fun!
3. Become a Property Manager
I realize, if you already have a full-time job, this can be quite impossible. But, if you are a stay-at-home mom, or unemployed at the current time, you can always explore the possibility of becoming a property manager. Often times, you will receive a large discount on your housing in that complex, and you could make money on the side doing it. If you are a people person, this is a great way to go!
4. Join a Direct Selling Company
Your main motivation in a direct selling company is through you, and you alone. It’s up to you to motivate yourself to the point where you can make a good amount of profit. One of the best examples I know of a direct selling company would be Avon. There are many women who are involved in this company, and it makes a lot of sense to think about how much beauty products women already use on a regular basis!
5. Give Your Opinion
Online surveys, phone surveys, or product trials can yield anywhere from $5 to $150. There are also great opportunities where you go for 2-3 hours and earn over $100 just by giving up your time and being the right candidate. The point in this is that you need to be proactive in searching for ways to take surveys. Be careful though, there are many scams out there!
